Better Birth Outcomes

The Illinois Department of Human Resources (IDHS) Bureau of Maternal and Child Health (BMCH) Better Birth Outcomes – Comprehensive (BBO-C) provides pregnant, and parenting clients in Rock Island County with direct, comprehensive 1:1 nursing assessments and assistance to connect and engage with desired services and understand the importance of a medical home.  The Nurse Navigator provides a comprehensive nursing assessment and any immediate nursing intervention necessary to pregnant and postpartum individuals and their infants within a clinic setting.  Case Managers provide screening using social determinants of health, health and wellness goals and promote the reduction of maternal and infant morbidity and mortality.

BBO provides nursing assessments, help with applications to Women, Infants, and Children, understand benefits of their health insurance’s Managed Care Organization (MCO), enroll in MCO care coordination, and help access other MCO value added benefits including Pregnancy programs, and Postpartum programs.

Eligibility for services is a family/dyad or individual meeting the following:

Clients come into our services through WIC referrals, hospitals, physicians, agencies, or individuals. BBO staff connect clients with nutrition services, health education, transportation, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and other resources they may need.  BBO participates in community initiatives such as developmental screenings, mental health promotion, breastfeeding support, and the All Our Kids Early Childhood Network.  BBO promotes injury prevention and child passenger safety through participation with Safe Kids Worldwide program partners.  We currently have 2 Child Passenger Safety Technicians.
